Refractometers
A wide range of Refractometers for the Laboratory
Krüss offers six Refractometer options – Digital, Abbe, Process, Digital Handheld and Manual Handheld.
The Series DR6000 Digital Lab Refractometers can be comfortably operated by touchscreen. It has an integrated Peltier thermostat for efficient temperature control, which allows very short measuring times at maximum accuracy.
Digital Abbe Refractometers include the AR2008, a robust unit incorporating electronic data evaluation and an optional temperature-compensation feature.
In addition, the optical design of the AR 4 Abbe refractomer gives accurate measurement of the refractive index, with a very thin layer between the prisms.
The Series PR21 Process Refractometer has been developed for direct insertion into pipes and boilers, and is ideal for process monitoring, control and separation of products in the chemical, beverage, food, pulp and paper as well as sugar industries. The PRB21 is a basic bypass process refractometer which meets all requirements in continuous process monitoring – it is easy to install and covers a large range of industry applications.
Krüss also has a wide range of Digital Handheld Refractometers, including the DR301-95, a large robust digital handheld refractometer, suitable for every day use, the smaller DR201-95 compact digital handheld refractometer and the sturdy, entry level DR101-60 with the same easy handling and fast measuring results as the two other digital handheld refractometers.
The HR series Manual Handheld Refractometers have been designed for quick daily application, and are delivered complete with conversion tables and case.
LabGuide software (optional) ensures it is easy for the technician to store and retrieve records, carry out measuring processes and check values. The program includes a secure user management feature, whereby each user is assigned to a group through which they will be assigned access rights. All actions are recorded in an audit trail, according to the requirements of 21 CFR Part 11. In addition, the user may set up and manage their own measuring methods with product specific marginal values. LabGuide is the result of collaboration between Krüss Optronic and iCD GmbH on behalf of Laboratory Information/Management-Systems (LIMS) LABS/Q.
Refractometer Accessories include the AR15 Flow-through cell with funnel is an upgrade for the AR4 and AR2008, as is the AR16.
Refractometer calibration solutions include RI34 calibration solution 1.3400 nD (5 %Brix), RI39 calibration solution 1.3900 nD (35 %Brix), RI43 calibration solution 1.4300 nD (55 %Brix), RI48 calibration solution 1.4800 nD (76 %Brix), and RI65 calibration solution 1.6500 nD. All bottles contain 30cc, and are supplied with a certificate.

Four standard models are available in this series, varying according to range, resolution and accuracy.
Digital Handheld Refractometers DR series
Robust, everyday handheld refractometers for the laboratory
Krüss offers three models in its DR series of Digital Handheld Refractometers. The DR301-95 is the largest in this range; it is robust and suitable for everyday usage. Easily connected to a PC, allowing for measurements to be saved and evaluated at a later date, it incorporates the refractive index, sugar and salt scales, with the option to add two other user-defined scales. The DR301-95 offers more flexibility than most handheld devices – it can be easily calibrated, and has an optional temperature compensation feature. Add from the range of accessories the 9V power supply, and it transforms into a small mobile laboratory refractometer.
The smaller DR201-95 is a compact digital handheld refractometer, easy to handle, precise, and fast. Ideal for on-site quality and process control. It has a wide refractive index scale range and a sugar scale. One DR201-95 can often replace several existing instruments. For wine-growing, a special version is available with an Oechsle scale, instead of a sugar scale. Ergonomically designed, the DR201-95 comes complete with a belt pouch.
The DR101-60 is a sturdy, entry level device with an excellent cost/performance ratio, it features the same easy handling and fast measuring results as the two other digital handheld refractometers in this series. It also includes automatic temperature compensation, and is ideal when a wide measurement range is not required.
Abbe Refractometers AR series
Easy handling with minimal sample quantities
Krüss offers three models in the Abbe refractometer AR series. Abbe refractometers are characterised by their easy handling and minimal sample quantities. These devices allow samples in the form of solids or pastes to be measured just as easily as liquids.
The AR2008 is a robust unit, ideal for applications in harsh environments. The refractive index or Brix value and temperature is shown on a LCD display, with a serial interface allowing measured values (date and time) to be transferred to a PC or printer. The AR2008 has automatic temperature compensation, and a thermostat connection of prisms and a built-in light source for the measuring prism. The unit comes complete with a glass calibration plate, contact fluid, screwdriver and a dust hood.
The AR4 offers readings via ocular. It has an adjustable scale, temperature controlled prisms, and thermostat connections for prisms.
Krüss Abbe refractometers are easily calibrated and in full compliance with the requirements of ASTM D1218.
On request we can manufacture your Abbe refractometer with an individual wavelength.
Manual Handheld Refractometers HR series
Compact, sturdy and simple to use
Krüss offers over twenty models in the HR series of Manual Handheld Refractometers, designed for the determination of mixing ratios, quality and quantity inspection applications within a large range of industries. The HR range has been designed for quick daily usage. It is compact, sturdy and simple to use, measurements are easily read, and is suitable for most applications because of the various scales and functions. For calibration either distilled water or a small calibration plate is employed, depending upon model. The HR is supplied in a case, complete with conversion tables.
Process Refractometers
Direct insertion or bypass designs
Krüss offers two models of Process Refractometers in the PR21 series. The PR21 has been developed for direct insertion into pipes and boilers, for process monitoring, control and separation of products in such industries as chemicals, beverages, food, pulp, paper, and sugar. Installation in a pipeline or tank is simple, as no bypass is necessary. Three interfaces are available for this unit: Analogue 0/4-20 mA, Ethernet, or PROFIBUS.
The PRB21 is a basic bypass process refractometer, meeting all requirements in continuous process monitoring, filling the gap between the DR6000 series of digital laboratory refractometers and the PR21. It is cost-effective, easy to install, has a wide measurement range, and like the PR21 covers a large range of industry applications. RS-232 and analogue 0/4–20 mA interfaces are available for this unit, and PROFIBUS can be supplied upon request. For visual monitoring an optional display is also available.
